Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners often refer Gynostemma Pentaphyllum as the "Immortally Herb", and described it as "like ginseng but better than ginseng".
The active component of Gynostemma Pentaphyllum is gypenosides. Gypenosides (saponins) have similar structure compared to ginsenosides (active component of ginseng), therefore have similar functions as ginseng. Saponins acts as cleansers in our body and have antiseptic properties. Other components include trace amounts of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
